a loverly day today

The hubby and son put up a 5 foot fence today to keep the chickens in. I did not like how they did it, but missed when they came home with it and no one came to get me. So I missed out on *helping* decide where to put it. The hubby said that was where it was going no matter what, so I would of lost anyway.

We have an old trampoline frame fenced in, with the top covered with chicken wire and a door to let them out, this door is part of an old crib my daughter found garbage picking. The area was big enough for 6 chickens but now we have 13 chickens so that grass is all eaten up and trampled down. So the hubby went around it bigger with the new fence, all that area that is in the trampoline part is useless. But he said the grass can grow back since they won't be using it.

He said the new fence had to GO there and not where I wanted it, I opted for the other side of the coop, and make a new ramp out of the chicken house. Use one side each year. I have seen pictures online of coops like that and thought that idea ideal! He said only one ramp in the house. One side fenced. He sometimes is hard headed.

He said where the ramp to get out was there already and that was where the fence WAS GOING! I so do not like this set up. But better than the chickens crapping on the sidewalk, right? We'll see if this keeps them in! I sure hope so. They love to be out all around all day, morning till dark.

Hubby said about 2 hours everyday close to evening time they can be let out to graze on the grass, which we have about 5 acres of it, or when he is working out there or I am, and to shooo them away if they come on the sidewalk or porch, I did that today and it actually worked. I was amazed they listened. When I do the dishes I love to look out the window and see them grazing, is that what you would call it? HAHA

The little bantam rooster has lost his place in the pecking order, now he is last I think. The big Easter Egger rooster has grown up and taken over his harem of chickies. I sort of feel sorry for him going out all alone. Each time he comes near them when they are all together walking around the big rooster chases him away. Then I think of how miserable the little rooster makes me when he chases me and spurs me, then I don't feel sorry for him.

We had a yummy supper. I did not feel like cooking and germing everyone up. Amy went into Westville and got us some fish at the United Methodist's church's Friday fish fry. We had never tried it and thank goodness she suggested it since today was their last one for awhile. I loved it. Especially just dirtying the forks.

So tomorrow is the test to see if this fence will keep them in. Hubby used the side panels of the old crib drilled together for the door to the new fence area but it is about 6 inches shorter than the fence, I hope they won't figure how to get out there. I asked if he could put something on it to make it higher but he said that is it and that is all the energy he is putting into it.

I will try to take some pictures tomorrow. I have not taken any for a long time. I miss it. I had bought myself a WD My Book 750GB External Hard Drive I was going to transfer all my pictures onto it and then use my other external hard drive for all my music. I have an ipod my daughter gave me but it does not work with my computers, it makes them shut down each time I plug it in, I have not tried it on my laptop yet, and of course I have misplaced it in this messy house.

So my daughter eyed the new WD My Book when she came over today and asked if she could have it and I said for part of her birthday present. It was a great deal at $54 at Staples last week. She uses them like crazy with her photography business. I have given/sold her about 3 of them so far and she has gotten a few herself.\. Here is her business page..

Hello....I haven't been here in a while as I was not able to get your recent posts for some reason? Just the older ones would come up. Yah...men can be stubborn and want to run the show sometimes! Sounds like it all turned out fine though. I took at look at your daughters website and it is amazing!! Very professional and classy looking. How long has she been doing this? You must be proud. You talk about computer parts like you know much about it? do you? That's what my husband does. He builds and repairs computers. His site is flippingbits.com so check him out!

HaHaHa!! The kicker would be if it didn't work, especially since he didn't have your "help"!! How did it do?

Your daughter has beautiful photography skills, I really liked them!

thanks Debbie, she has been at if for 3 years I think. I will have to go to your hubby's site when I am done here. I don't post much and this is the first time back here.

Thanks Cindy! It worked, sort of. A few chickens flew over and I got them back in the the hubby changed the gate, put some fence on the top of it and that did the trick. I also think the trick was that the hens were staying in so the big rooster stayed in too because he would not want to leave his harem. HAHA!
