Today it is only 72 and staying in the 70's all day so it is a much more comfortable zone then those 80's we had the last 2 days! Mike went out about 8am and I did not go till about 10am, I stayed in bed, a little luxury I call my own. Poor guy is such a work horse he can't stand NOT working.
He was almost done cutting up the 3 downed trees that I suggested he remove from the ground and area in the side I call side pasture, even though we have no animals to pasture on it since he was in a removing mood. The other day he cut up and split the tree in the back that was bugging him when he mowed. So he then found 1 of the trees was rotten in the middle. I think they are all Elm trees. They have been on the ground for a long time since the last huge storm through here. So he started splitting. I helped with the smaller tree getting him logs as he needed them. But found the other tree was way too big to even roll for me.
One tree was dry and one was still wet. The pile of split logs will stay out here till we get them both in for the basement. I asked him to split one of rotten in the middle logs, just to humor me. I thought we could use the outer wood of them. He balked and said the only thing these are good for are a bonfire outside! But he did split and said, Yea we could use these, pleasantly surprised! The splitter ran out of gas just as he split that one log, and he had gas but exclaimed he was tired and was done for the day! He had been out for a few hours already!
I did not feel great this morning anyway and did not mind quitting since I was not really too much help anyway. I had rolled a few smaller logs to him but felt helpless with the bigger ones. He is still out there doing something to his big tractor. The small chain saw quit running this morning, the little lawn tractor is huffing and puffing again giving us trouble. It is only 3-4 years old and should not be doing this.
Today is Friday and the last weekend before the hubby goes back to work. He is scheduled to return on Tuesday the day after Memorial day. Since it is a Holiday week his crew is only working 3 days since they are only working 4 days normally. So he goes back to work for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday a really short week, and will be off on Friday and Saturday and Sunday and Monday. Almost like a mini vacation. This will be good because he can work slowly into being back. He was off of work for 3 1/2 months.
I still have a few zinnias to mix into my flower beds around the porch, it looks full now because of all the greenery from the ornate poppies, and I got the first bloom today, they are so lovely! Too bad they don't last so long. I also have to replant the cucumber, but was waiting till the cold nights are over. My last ones died and the lady at the plant place said it was because the cold nights!
I wish we could have a big garden. Hubby says we could, where he picked out a few years ago, across the property behind the huge evergreens on the extra 2 acres we have. I have to drag 5 sets of hoses out there and hate it, cause I have to move them each time we mow which he does it about every 5 days. That is why I quit having a huge garden and now just have a few rows and circles out with my flower beds in the back where my old garden used to be. The soil is good there and out in the boonies so that is the only choices I have. Just a few out back or huge too far away!
I have cukes and green squash and sweet banana and green peppers and purple peppers and broccoli and cauliflower planted. He would not let me get cabbage, said they don't grow good but I remember how good they were, small but good. I would like to do a long row of double planted green beans like my neighbor across the street Jim does, they grow so good in his black dirt he had hauled here. we have crappy hard clay! Not too many things do well here, unless you condition the soil like we did with the rows and circles in back. I think the chicken poop will help this year too.
The hubby and daughter are going to Ikea tomorrow, the daughter wants this couch there. I think I will skip this and stay home and make some dvds I have been not doing. The computer is in front of the tv and I hate getting in everyone's way. The daughter has been coming over and watching Bones since the beginning and that has been fun until we fight, which seems to happen. I find more and more things get on my nerves I cannot help.
WE tried to make Moolattes yesterday in the blender and mine were the closest, hubby's sucked, they did not even come close. I got out a Cuisinart blender I had gotten the daughter and put away, I do that a lot, put things away. I used strong coffee, ice and sugar and caramel ice cream topping, and it worked and the ice chips were just like the D Q's Moolate until the hubby said put some ice cream in there and that took the ice chips away, the blending of the ice cream in. But they still were good. I need to get more ice cream the daughter made shakes too.I will be keeping that blender for me since the daughter has one and odes not want it.

I was very happy to put your blog to your picture. I didn't know who the heck you were. It is very nice to meet you! You have some beautiful property and a great family. I am so sorry about your kitty, you know I certainly understand. It is late for me, don't know what the heck I'm doing up. I will be back to visit tomorrow. I find your chickens very interesting and have enjoyed what I have got to read in your blog! I am new to blogging too and it can sort of overwhelm you-shoot I didn't think I'd ever have to worry about answering any comments!
