Hubby cut up the elm tree that had been so bothering him along the back property line. It had blown down in a storm a few months ago. The doctor told him he could start chain sawing if he took it easy but really would prefer him not too. No twisting and lifting either and no lifting too heavy things. Even though he is healed from his back fusion surgery, he still should take it easy for the next 6 or so months.
So he was careful today. And using the little chain saw too. HA! I could lift the little chain to put it away and such. But I could not imagine anyone using it to chain saw, it was heavy to me. And the big chain saw, I cannot lift it at all. I am such a wimp.
My hubby is a HE MAN, so amazingly strong. His arms muscles are huge, I love it when he makes a muscle when I ask him too and I wrap my hands around it! And his thighs, oh my, they are solid rock! Such hard muscle. He is only fat in the tummy, but man he is my hunk!
So I was NOT coming out to help since my stupid knees were still hurting really bad from our working on wood from a few days ago. What work I did the other day was throw the wood that was already cut and split into our green wood wagon, from the huge oak tree further back in the woods that blew down in a storm a few years ago. They figured it was 90 years old. The hubby had cut it up and the son had helped split it. And after hubby and I filled the wagon together working one side each, I walked back to the house and threw the wood down the homemade chute in the window to him in the basement, the whole wagon worth! My arms were aching so! Knees too.
So for a few days I did nothing outside, babied my knees, then yesterday worked on staking some of my flowers, the cleome were starting to be crooked. But I only worked an hour or two and I hurt so I went in and stayed in bed all evening. I was afraid to get up this morning, did not want to have any bad pain. But of course I did and the pain was bad again. I am tired of being sick and tired!
So watching him today from the kitchen window I felt sorry for him out there all by his lonesome. So I rode the lawn mower with the cart behind it out to him. Beats walking for sure! He told me to roll the logs to him but I could not. They were from a small-medium tree but the splitter was uphill a little bit and I could not for the life of me do it. It sure frustrated me not being able to do it.
He said it was good therapy me being out there today with him. I had to be really careful where I was walking and not trip or watch out in case my replaced knee would go backwards. It was a beautiful sunny day. The sky was so blue. My favorite color. Cold and windy but I was warm working. The dog got tired coming out to the back there and stayed near the house in the shade she loves to lay in. It is 495 feet back to where we were on the property line. Our house is 125 feet off the road so from the backyard it is 370 feet to walk back there to where we were working, the dog is old and has arthritis too and a bad leg that is lame. But when she feels really good she runs, but later pays for it! Just like me working.
So he told me to clean up the branches and limbs to a pile he had started. I did this. Some were stuck in the ground for being out there so long, and tangled and lost in the tall grass too. I found a lot of branches by walking through the tall grass and then pulling them up. I went and piled the logs that did not need any splitting onto a log pile out of the way of the tall grass. I then got the idea to put the limbs and branches in the cart and drive it up to the big brush pile, and it only took me two trips. That way it was out of the way!
Then went back up toward the house and mowed around my little flower garden area, I have circles and rows, I do not like him to mow there, one year he mowed down all my sedum! I have vegetable plants there too in two rows almost full, the cucumbers died on the end and I would like to replace them and then I have two circles, one cucumbers and one tomatoes. Then one row I put only one zucchini plant into it, and I was going to put the tall grass plants I did not plant last year there but changed my mind and I'd like to keep it all veggies and finish the row tomorrow. I hope they have some more burpless cucumbers, I had bought the last of what they had when we were there 2 weeks ago. Might have to go somewhere else and look.
Then I went in and took a long long hot shower. I knew the water would be hot again when he got in and it was his turn so I took my sweet time! The hubby was mowing the tall grass where the tree was and then he mowed some more out in the back what we call the pasture, though we do not have any animals to use it. We have 7 acres of property and 5 of it in grass. We have the riding lawn mower to cut the regular lawn up around the house and the tractor with the 72 inch Woods finish mower to do the rest. It makes mowing sure easy.
I remember when we first lived here, 22 years ago, and we had about an acre in grass (we planted grass in spurts as we could afford it) and we mowed it with a push mower from Sears, and I thought the hubby was trying to kill me! He was talking to his brother, he was over for a look see at our new house, and they were laughing and I was pushing this dang mower around and around and it was getting harder and harder for me. So I kept pushing this mower and each time I went past them they would be smiling and laughing so weird like! I stopped then and asked the hubby if he had our life insurance paid up and if he was trying to KILL me?!
I was soo dumb I did not know that the push mower was self propelled and all you had to do was keep the handle pulled down while you were mowing, and it would go by itself. Really go too, it was hard to keep up with! After a while it sure hurt your hand holding it down once he told me how to use it..the hubby then taped it down so you did not have to hold it down. It was a dream to mow with. Man when we got the riding mower a few years later I thought I was in Heaven!
Well I have rambled on long enough. I get off subject and jump back and forth so I am a little hard to follow sometime. But if you did read, thanks, and say hello.
